Everyone love’s a curry and i most certainly love a curry that is low in calorie ! I have had this curry with meat before but as i’m meat free ( Chicken, Lamb etc) I have added in a bunch of onions , peppers and delicious king prawns. This is a great alternative to that greasy takeaway you order on a weekend and instead of rice … Just add Cous cous … I swear by this stuff , especially the cous cous brought from tesco ( Tesco’s own brand ) 100 cals for 90g … You can’t go wrong with that . So let me show you …
What you will need :
1-2 Large Onions ( As you aren’t adding fatty meat , you can allow yourself so extra veggies !!)
1 Green Pepper
100g King Prawns ( Or you can use mussels/ squid/scallops/fish. If your vegan , leave this out. )
Aldi’s Rogan Josh Curry Sauce & Seasoning. ( A third of this is 120 cals , so don’t throw the whole thing in there! )
Tesco’s Cous Cous ( Or any Cous Cous )
Step 1 :
Cut your onions and red pepper up , add to a hot pan and fry lightly in virgin oil.
Step 2 :
Meanwhile , season the king prawns using half of the seasoning that came with the jar. Once the onions and peppers turn golden , add the marinated king prawns and stir gently . Add the rest of the seasoning and then add the curry from the jar . Let it simmer for 20 mins.
Step 3 :
Add a 250 ml to 90 grams of Cous Cous and pop it in the microwave for 3 mins or on the hob for 5 mins .
Step 4 :
Once both are cooked , let it rest and then serve.
This meal just fall’s short of 400 calories .
For a long time , i have been toying with the idea of cutting down considerably on meat and increasing my veggies. I have been wanting to do this after i read an article ( http://ecosimply.com/eating-less-meat-benefits-for-you-and-the-planet-1089.html ) on the benefits of cutting out meat ( Or cutting down) and how meat carries all sorts of ‘ Shit we don’t need’ chemicals in them. I also read that cutting down on meat is a great way of saving money and also how you would be lowering your chances of developing heart disease and stroke. To be fair , there is a long list of benefits but i would probably be here all day. It has helped some people lose weight too and i’ be honest with you , that’s what attracted me!!
Anyway, i have decided to cut meat out from Monday to Friday and only eating it on the weekend. I feel this isn’t as drastic as cutting it out completely and it gives me something to look forward to in the week . I have always been a meat eater and i very much enjoy eating it but i also enjoy vegetables and fish ( Yes i know , it’s a type of meat but it’s no where near as fat heavy as traditional meats) , so why not take advantage of that .
Don’t get me wrong , i could never cut out meat altogether as i enjoy it too much and feel meat has its benefits but i feel my body needs a semi-detox . I did my shopping today and brought lot’s of interesting non-meat products for half the price , so that suits me down to the ground .
I have found a few recipes to try out and when i do , i will give post you the recipes . At the moment , i am really enjoying shallow fried Falafel with a nice big salad . Asda sell their own branded Falafel mix for just over a quid … It’s worth a try .
I think this is a good idea for mommies on a budget and for people who are health conscious.
I think we are all probably guilty of calling treats … Cheats . Making allowances for one self just comes naturally and it can be hard to curve such a tempting habit. Whenever i have a ‘ Cheat’ meal or ‘Cheat’ day , i am fully responsible because it was my CHOICE .
I tell you now … There is such a difference in how you feel , when you burn over the 350 calorie mark … Than burning under 350 calories . I wasn’t expecting to burn that much , so when i peered down at my watch (Polar FT4) and saw that i had burned 509 calories , i was well impressed with myself. Pushing past the 350 mark , i now feel alive again and back where i should be – Burning a hell load of calories .
It was first time doing the TurboFire ( Fire 30 class & Stretch ) and initially , i thought it was quite ‘ Disco dancey’ but after about 5 mins , i was gasping for air and finding it hard to keep up with some of them moves . It is good to find the moves difficult , as you always have room to improve and you wont feel bored. It reminds me of Tae Bo but a lot faster adn with complex moves , Compared to Insanity , i find it’s a lot more enjoyable and less daunting . It could of done with a fitness test , like insanity , to measure your progress .
Other than that , it was a good start to the program and the next 89 days !!!
Right, I decided it’s about time i stopped messing about with my own workout routines and actually get back into following a hardcore program . I will admit , i am scared but it’s needed , as i have done a lot of faffing about lately . As you can probably tell , one of my most annoying habits , is consistency and you need this in order to succeed .
Insanity was an amazing workout program but i never stuck to it … I know , surprise , surprise. I like change and i think its not only healthy to have change but also vital , if you want to keep on losing weight . This time round , i’ve decided to try out TurboFire® ( You can find out more info here - www.beachbody.com ). Apparently , it burn’s up to 9x more fat than regular cardio , so that’s always a winner!! The program last’s 90 days and there’s 12 workouts altogether. I’m very keen to get stuck in and get my strength back .
Life has been all over the place and my dedication has gone missing somewhere . As you can tell from my previous posts , i’ve been struggling with getting back on track and keeping motivated . I think if your head is all over the place , you tend to pull away from workouts and lean more towards using excuses. I’ve come so far and believe me when i say , losing nearly 60 lbs has been the hardest task I’ve ever undertaken . So losing just another stone , can’t be that hard…Can it ?
I will let you know how i get on with my first TurboFire workout session. Hopefully , my endurance level is not as bad i think .
Forgive me for my absence of late. i haven’t been around for a while due to personal issues. I know , shouldn’t be an excuse but ah well !
What have i been up to ? Well fitness wise , not a whole lot to be honest with you. Good news is i haven’t put on any weight but the bad new is , i have lost a bit of motivation! It’s probably worth mentioning that i have recently separated from my ex, so lots of sobbing and feeling sorry for myself.
I’ve slipped back a little with diet and fitness but am getting myself back on track , to lose this annoying one and a half stone ! I’m just so glad that i haven’t put on any weight and i’m even happier that i i’ve been able to maintain my weight – a skill that will come in handy once i’ve reached my goal.
My main aims for the following week are:
1. Get a food scale ( lost mine during the big move).
2. Follow a new fitness programme.
3. Drink more fluids.
4. Reduce snacking ( I’ve done it for a good 8 months and i’m sure i can do it again)
5. Look for inspiration weekly.
That’s my plan and i PLAN to stick to it .
Keep on shredding !
